King Of The Foolers?!
02.17.10
“Why do you ride those 2-stroke Three Wheelers?” is a question a person on the ‘outside’ of our world might ask. And who could blame them, really with all we’ve been lead to believe?
The common Three Wheeler has been deemed a ‘death trap’ by those ignorant to the facts since the mid-80’s. Big Red’s, 200E Shafts, 200M’s and even the lil ATC70’s are considered ‘insane,’ ‘unsafe’ & even ‘illegal!’
But crazier then all that & even though we here at AF.COM own and love the regular ‘working mans’ three wheelers listed above, for the most part we all own 250CC 2-stroke powered racing trikes!
250CC’s – who am I kidding? Anyone who spends more then 5 minutes on the forum would see that every day of the week someone else is taking the bigbore plunge.
It’s all about power!
The 300R club, which used to be rather exclusive, is now bursting at the seams with Fooler owners running Hondaline’s original factory upgrade for the 250R engine.
Referred to by many as the holy grail – the Mugen 360 – is an upgrade most everyone would love to do – but – the rarity of finding a Mugen 360 head, jug and piston is for the most part as easy as finding a needle in a haystack.
So – what’s a guy to do when he not only only outgrows his stock-ish 250R with the common bolt on mods? Or even that 300R built to the limit?
With the Mugen pretty much a pipe dream, at best, some loyal Foolers took it upon themselves to create their own destiny if you will – one example of such is using the 350FL Oddessy head and jug and modifying the 250R bottom end to accept it. There are a couple of these in the works and we’re all anxious to see the results.
Another creative, forward thinking Fooler owner decided, however, to step out in a whole different direction & this is where stuff gets really freaking exciting!
Mario, known as ‘BigBore’ on the forums, decided he was going to transplant a CR480R engine into a 1st Gen Fooler frame! Armed with his tools, his skill and a whole lot of imagination, Mario peddled away at the project slowly, taking time to perfect each detail of the build as best as possible. And boy did he ever pull it off!! I don’t think ANYONE expected or was ready for what Mario unleashed unto us on the forum a few short days ago.
Here my fellow Foolers is the 1st sneak peeks at what I feel is ‘The King Of The Foolers’ – Not since Mike Coes legendary CR480R Open Class 1st gen beast has another 480 been built to this level.
With no attention to detail spared, both high dollar & rare parts & tons of custom fabrication work to be found all over this bike – I think it’s safe to say that this is one of the baddest first generation ‘250R’s’ on the planet. Hell, it’s one of the baddest 250R’s you’ll find regardless of what generation.
Without further ado – here are the rest of the pictures. And be aware that Mario has promised a full build thread over at the forum very soon and also plans on manufacturing and selling all the engine mounts and brackets needed to fit the beastly CR480 in your very own 1st Gen Fooler frame. (So expect a bunch of 480 builds to pop up very soon)
