The Fourwheeled Fooler!

02.27.10

Remember this ? Of course you do (or don’t I dunno!) – regardless, it was the first ‘four wheeled Fooler’ we reported on here at www.airfoolers.com

Today I was sent an email by community member DP250R81 and in it he included a couple pics of his own Fooler-Conversion … his platform, unlike the second gen conversion linked above, is based on a 1st Gen 250R – a 1982.

I’ve been pretty hard on ‘qwads’ in the past but …

If this is what it takes to keep a Fooler alive, then so be it. I personally wouldn’t go this route – but – to each their own. I’ll be the first to admit it doesn’t look half bad. Hopefully DP250R81 will give us some more information behind this machine and a ride report soon.

I wouldn’t mind building an Aifooler Quad – However I think I would base it around an 86-89 TRX frame, stuff a 300, Mugen 360 or CR480 Fooler engine in it and go with red plastics and original 1st Gen 250R ATC tank decals. I think that would look pretty hot & be a fun bike.

While we’re on the subject – here’s a video of an Airfooler Quad in action!

Whatever you ride – enjoy it, have fun, wear proper safety gear to keep safe!

DP, didn’t you say once that you built it back in the 80’s? Did you buy it new? Does it have a lot of races on it as a 3 and a 4 wheeled machine?

My brother bought the trike used in the spring of 1984 he rode it and raced it until he tweaked the frame. I got it from him for parts origanaly for my 81 250 .In 94 I heard from some buddys that I rode with that Moto Masters in Mexico NY a moto cross park was going to start some quad classes. One of which was aimed at the Blaster it was a small bore aircooled class.I wanted to race but i didnt want to spend a fortune doing it. So I took the tweaked fooler 82 frame and a quad Sport 230 frame that had no motor and grafted them together .My cousin was taking welding in school and wanted to weld some projects so I had him weld it for me .The motor is stock the pipe is a Bills from my 81 fooler the rear shock is stock 82 .I have race it in drags ,crosscountry, motocross. In 97 I raced in the Western NY Offroad Association series I finished 2 place over all in the series in my class I have a 5 and1\2foot trophy for that and I have some 1st place trophys for drags from ealy 2000s.

That’s cool man. Its nice that you have had success with it and still have it around to tell the stories behind it.

How did the other racers feel about you taking 2nd place on a 15 year old machine?

I got a good reception the guys I hung with in the WYNOA were a great bunch of people .They helped me out a lot the one guy that I ran against was in his fifties and he was very seasoned in cross country racing .He told me what to look out for he helped me set up for the wet and mud.He loved my airfooler he said he owned several 250r trikes over the years. He new the guy that put a 480 motor in in a second gen 250r the one that was in Dirt Wheels. There was a lot of people that tried to figure out what it was when I would tell them they were all shock that a old machine could run with the new ones.At the Moto Cross I had a bunch of fans that would cheer for me because they liked the quad.I remeber one young kid that was going around the pits with his dad and they stoped to talk to me and when the dad said to the kid are you ready to go look at the other bikes and quads the kid said no this is the only one I realy wanted to look at. I just smiled and shook his hand .
